I've been out of the music loop (or at least the commercial/typical music loop) for quite a while now, probably a year or better. It was all starting to blend and sound the same. I was bored with it. So, instead of going to all the indie and pop shows all the time, I started going to little coffee shop and small party picking gigs. I've been learning more about traditional and international music and have been quite enjoying it.
So much so, in fact, that I haven't bought shit for music other than some Middle Eastern, Balinese, Hispanic and Greek techno mixes - mostly for listening to at the store. Then I started going after traditional Mexican type of music with lots of wailing and nearly off pitch crooning and some nice traditional mandolin tunes and even some flamenco.
I forgot to keep up with new music and new artists during this past year and fell behind on the commercial market. But, I worked at Homer's this weekend and poked around a bit. I found an Alex Lloyd CD for a buck during the sidewalk sale. I was so excited! Then while putting some CDs away, I saw an album I didn't have, but always buy this artist when there's a new release. Teenage Fanclub.
Released on my fortieth birthday, June 7th this year, Man-Made. And I LOVE IT! It's making me so happy to listen to this right now as it got my taste buds up for some pop music again. I need to get back to digging through the stacks to see what else I can conjure up

I'd say that's some decent company in a record collection. But, that's just my two cents.
I'm so glad there is music in my life. No matter what genre I'm interested at the time, I'll always love music.
